Phase 2
Initial Consultation with one of our Certified Long Distance Moving Consultants to establish an understanding of your needs and outline our services
Once you have made the decision that you are ready to move, please give us a call at 248-926-9999. You will be assigned a Certified Long Distance Move Consultant to be your single point-of-contact throughout your entire move. Your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will gather all of your pertinent information as well as provide you with all of their contact numbers and e-mail addresses. They will schedule an appointment to visit your home. There is no fee for this service. We will schedule an appointment based on your availability. We can visit in the morning, afternoon, evening, or even weekends. Depending on the size of your move and the services you have selected, we will generally recommend that you schedule your consultation 1 month prior to your desired move date. This will allow our Certified Long Distance Moving Consultants enough time to secure your move dates, assist in downsizing any excess items, and make arrangements for packing or storage services. During this appointment, your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will perform a free, in-house, no-obligation estimate, review the move process, and provide you with an introductory packet.
When the Professional Movers.com Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant visits your home he will focus on the following:
- Provide Your Rights & Responsibilities Packet & the Ready to Move Packet.
- Explain how a typical long distance move is different than a local move.
- Explain valuation options for long distance moving
- Determine what help you need with your existing home to prepare for moving?
- Determine if and how much packing may be needed?
- Identify which items you may wish to downsize or give to family members?
- Identify which items you would like to move to your new home?
- Identify which items may need special services such as crating.
- Determine an estimated weight of your shipment using cubic estimator.

The estimate/order for service will be a very detailed document that will be easy to read. It will be typed in large font and either hand delivered, e-mailed, or faxed. The estimate / order for service will contain pricing along with the agreed pick-up and delivery spread. It also will define additional terms such as your valuation. Our Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will either schedule another visit or call you on the phone to review our estimate/order for service form and see if you have any questions.
Phase 3
The Pre-move follow-up
Once you decide to move with Professional Movers.com, your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will follow-up to review your estimate / order for service and provide you with a revised estimate / order for service if any changes have been discussed. At this time we will ask you to sign the “Order for Service”, this document will authorize Professional Movers.com to transport your household goods. The “Order for Service Form” is a critical document that allows your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant the ability to register your shipment. This helps solidify your pack and load dates, third party service dates, delivery dates, and in some cases pricing. Once your shipment is registered and assigned to a driver, we will provide you with the phone number of the driver who is scheduled to pick-up your shipment.
24 hours prior to the scheduled pack or move date your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will call you to remind you of the crew’s expected arrival time.
Phase 4
Preparing for the Move (Optional Services)
Sorting – We will help you organize your current home and sort your items to help determine which items to move. This can take a few hours or as long as a few days depending on how much help you need.
Downsizing – Help you determine what is needed in the new home, make arrangements for family heirlooms to be shipped to loved ones, arrange estate sales, appraisals for antiques, and make charitable contributions.
Phase 5
Packing and Preparing Items for your Move (Optional Services)
Packing Day – Help pack your home and prepare it for moving day. We will supply a packing team who is experienced in packing fragile or delicate items. Our pack team will use specialized packing materials including, boxes designed for dishes and pictures. Depending on the services you have selected, and the size of your move, preparation and packing will generally begin 1-3 days prior to the scheduled move, leaving selected necessities for your use until the scheduled move date.
Your pack team will document the quantity and type of boxes that they packed on your “Additional Services Requested / Performed Form”. The pack team will review the “Additional Services Requested / Performed Form” and ask for your signature. A copy of the form will be provided to you.
Phase 6
Moving Day – Loading
Starting Weight of Moving Truck – In most cases, the Driver who will be transporting your shipment will get an empty weight or current weight of his truck prior to arriving at your home. The weight will be displayed on a weight ticket that was acquired from a certified truck scale. The empty weight or current weight ticket will be used later to help determine the weight of your shipment. At any point you may ask to see the weight ticket. In some cases, where a scale was not available, the driver may get a loaded weight first and then get an unloaded weight after the shipment is emptied out of the truck. It is also important to point out that not all shipments will require a weight ticket.
Getting the Right Movers – On moving day Professional Movers.com will be present to supervise your entire relocation. Your moving team will be chosen based on the exact specifications of your move. Your hand picked team of movers will complement each other’s job capabilities and create a manageable, efficient and cost-effective relocation. For example, if your move requires a lot of disassembly, then we will send a mover who is experienced in providing disassembly services.
Beginning of Day – On your scheduled moving days, our movers will arrive on-time. The movers will present you with the “Bill of Lading” and review the terms of your valuation. The movers will request your signature on the valuation section of the “Bill of Lading”.
Taking Inventory – Before we begin loading your belongings into the moving truck, our movers will take a detailed descriptive list of the items in your shipment and their condition. All of your items will be documented or catalogued on the “Descriptive Inventory Form”. The movers will review the “Descriptive Inventory Form” and ask for your signature. A copy of the “Descriptive Inventory Form” will be provided to you for your records.
Extraordinary Value Inventory Form: While the movers are taking an inventory they will ask you to list any items of extraordinary value. The term “Extraordinary Value Items” is applied to any of your household objects with a value greater than $100.00 per pound per article. These extraordinary value items may include vintage items, collectors’ items and/or antique items in any of the following forms: If you possess any of the extraordinary value items of a value greater than $100.00 per Lb. per object, talk to our movers and packers about it. They will complete an inventory of them and make sure you sign the High Value Inventory sheet. Should you forget, neglect or fail to fill this important document, we will only be liable only for the total value of the shipment you declared and for a total of no more than $100.00 per pound per item based on the actual weight of the article. Nevertheless, have in mind that shipments under the “basic carrier liability” will not be subject to the fore mentioned loss and damage policy.
Protective Materials – Professional Movers.com prides itself on the safe and secure protection for your goods and your home. Before we begin loading your items we will pad protect your entryway doors and stair banisters, in addition to covering any walkway flooring.
Loading the Moving Truck – Once all of your items are inventoried, our movers will begin loading the truck. All of your upholstered items will be stretch wrapped and placed in premium pads. All remaining furniture items will be hand carried to the moving truck and wrapped in premium pads. Any mattresses will be placed in mattress boxes to keep them clean during transport.
Optional Cleaning Service – If your original home needs to be cleaned prior to you turning the keys over to the new owner, we can arrange to have a cleaning crew make your home look its best.
Loaded Weight of Moving Truck – In most cases, the Driver who will be transporting your shipment will get a loaded weight for the truck once all of your items are loaded onto the moving truck. The weight will be displayed on a weight ticket that will be acquired from a certified truck scale. The loaded weight ticket will be used to help determine the actual weight of your shipment. Once the driver has established a weight for your shipment, he will contact your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant to inform him of the weight. Your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will use the weight to calculate your total charges and then contact you with the cost of your move. At any point you may ask to see the weight ticket. In some cases, where a scale was not available, the driver may get a loaded weight first and then get an unloaded weight after the shipment is emptied out of the truck. It is also important to point out that not all shipments will require a weight ticket.
Phase 7
Your Shipment in Transit
Transit Time – This is the number of days between your load day and your unload day. At this point in the move process, your goods will already be loaded into our moving truck and the truck will be in route to your new location. Your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant will be able to determine the transit time for your shipment. The exact transit time is based on the weight of your shipment and the mileage between your two locations. To learn more about your particular transit time or spread time of your shipment, contact your Certified Long Distance Moving Consultant.
Phase 8
Moving Day – Unloading
Collection of Payment – Upon arriving at your new home, our movers will present you with the Bill of Lading containing the total charges for your move. Before the truck is unloaded, you must provide payment in full. Payment may be made in the form of cash, credit card, money order, traveler’s check, or certified check.
Protective Materials – Professional Movers.com prides itself on the safe and secure protection for your goods and your new home. Before we begin unloading your items we will pad protect your entryway doors and stair banisters, in addition to covering any walkway flooring.
Unloading the Moving Truck – Our movers will provide you with the original Inventory Forms. The movers will explain that they are going to begin unloading the moving truck. If you would like, you are welcome to check each item off the inventory form as they are carried into the house. As our movers unload the truck, they will place your items into your desired room locations. Any pieces of furniture that were disassembled at your loading location will be reassembled at your new home. Once everything is unloaded, we will ask you to sign the Descriptive Inventory Forms.
Unpacking – (Optional Service) – Our packing/moving team will begin unpacking boxes that our movers deliver. All items that were packed will be placed in their predetermined locations. The packers will also direct our movers where to place your furniture. Our packers can also help organize your kitchen and closets, make your bed, hang your pictures, and ensure that your cable and phone are connected. All of the empty packing materials and boxes will be removed from your new home. When our unpacking team leaves your new home, we want you to feel as if you have lived in your new home for years.
Phase 9
Follow-up and Post Move Evaluation
We understand there are times a medical or personal situation can be the driving force of the move and time lines can be tight. We will be there every step of the way, go the extra mile, and address all the details, ensuring the transition is smooth and the new surroundings are familiar.
Post Move Evaluation – At the close of each move, you will be asked to complete an online service questionnaire, used to evaluate our workmanship. This questionnaire helps to distinguish areas of strength and weakness. This assessment is a vital tool, which allows us to listen, learn, and provide continuous improvement on our award-winning moving services
The nine phases of long distance move process has been created to fulfill the need for excellent communication throughout all aspects of a long distance move. We recognize each move is different and circumstances are often unique. The nine phases are not meant to act as a concrete plan of what to expect throughout your move, it is only to help give you a general idea of what happens on most long distance relocations.

Long Distance Move Valuation Options
We offer two types of coverage. The types of coverage are outlined in the chart below:
FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE PROTECTION PRICE
(Effective on Shipments Loading on or after January 1, 2007)
Rates are subject to change and must be confirmed with your Certified Moving Consultant
The charge for replacement coverage on shipments transported to or from Alaska will be twice the rate shown above.
When the shipper (you) declares or releases the shipment to a valuation amount that falls between those amounts shown on the chart, the charge for the next highest valuation amount applies.
The charge for a maximum valuation exceeding $250,000.00 is the applicable charge for the first $250,000.00 declared, plus the additional rate shown above per $100.00 for the amount in excess of $250,000.00.
Note: Extraordinary Value
Under the Full Replacement Value option, your mover is also permitted to limit its liability for loss or damage to articles that have extraordinary value, unless you have specifically listed these articles on the “Inventory of Items Value in Excess of $100 Per Pound Per Articles” form. 3. Wheaton World Wide Moving Affiliation
In February 2008, Professional Movers.com commenced a long term agency agreement with Wheaton World Wide Moving, the 4th largest van line in the United States, with offices in or near every major market in the US. Professional Movers.com experience in providing Michigan residents with Long Distance relocation services combined with Wheaton’s expansive network of over 250 agents, creates a unique relocation company offering our customers a wide range of quality services at competitive rates. Professional Movers.com and Wheaton World Wide Moving share common entrepreneurial roots and a business philosophy that places quality improvement as the highest priority. We realize a successful long distance move requires top quality services at both the origin and destination location. That is why all Wheaton World Wide agents have the same stringent quality labor requirements as Professional Movers.com.
4. Flexible Pricing Options
Whether your long distance move is large in scope or small, Professional Movers.com has three pricing options to meet your needs and fit your budget.
- Non-Binding Estimate: this provides a projected cost but allows you to add or delete the items to be moved without additional paperwork. This is the right solution when you are unsure of the items to be moved but want to at least have a reasonable projection of the cost. Final charges are determined only after the loading process has been completed.
- Option Binding Estimate: this provides a projected cost that will not increase but may decrease if the weight and services provided are less than anticipated. This option is useful when you have a lump sum allocated to pay for the move and don’t want the final move cost to exceed it.
- Binding Estimate: this quote locks in your move cost and will not increase nor decrease based on the agreed upon services. This is popular with those that like the idea of price certainty.
5. Positive Impact on Michigan Communities
Our world headquarters is based right here in Michigan. Our employees are Michigan residents and a majority of our truck fleet consists of American-made nameplates like GMC, Kentucky Trailer, and Ford. We take great measures to go out of our way to spend our dollars with local Michigan based companies. After all, we know how important it is to help support the local economy and people who use our services. So when you hire Professional Movers.com you can rest easy knowing that you too are helping keep Michigan families working, and you too are doing your part to stimulate the local economy by hiring a local moving company who will pay it forward and spend their money here in Michigan.
6. Moving Industry’s Most Accurate Estimates
At Professional Movers.com all of our Certified Long Distance Moving Consultants utilize the most advanced electronic handheld technology to provide accurate same day or next day pricing. Our Certified Long Distance Moving Consultants use handheld estimation software to record your important move information such as address locations, contact information, and desired move dates. It also surveys your home and helps take a room by room inventory of your items helping to calculate a total estimated weight of your shipment. In addition, the handheld enables our Certified Long Distance Moving Consultants the ability to make special notes regarding your shipment. For example, if you are concerned about a particular vase, our consultants will make a note on the estimate to make sure the movers crate or box the vase. On the same day our consultants visit your home, we are able to print a neat and easy-to-read survey and estimate that will provide you with total weight of your goods, a list of the items you want to move, the number of boxes you will have, and a total estimated price. We have found that by utilizing new technology we have eliminated math errors, provided more precise costs, and have simplified the move process for our customers.
7. Next Day Delivery Service for 500 Miles or Less
If you are moving 500 miles or less, Professional Movers.com can offer you next day delivery at no extra cost. That is right, we will treat your long distance move just like we would a local move. Professional Movers.com will load your items and deliver them to your new address the same day or the day following the load. You will have EXCLUSIVE use of our truck, meaning that your furniture will be at your new location faster than many other movers that split loads. In addition, the same movers that load your items onto the truck at the old residence will be delivering and unloading your items at your new residence.
