Professional Movers.com defines “non-allowable items” as any items that if packed would have a degree of risk if it were transported. The United States Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency have set standards to regulate those items, which can not be packed and shipped during a move. These standards are for everyone’s protection.
“Non allowable items” are hazardous items and perishables. Some good questions that our packers or you should keep in mind when deciding if an item is considered to be “non-allowable” are:
- Will it spoil?
- Will it leak?
- Will it explode?
- Will it cause a fire?
- Will it be affected by heat or cold?
- If it leaks, will it damage other items?
If you or your packers answer yes to any of the questions above, then the items in questions should not be packed.
Professional Movers.com packers are trained to use their best judgment when packing items. Many liquids can freeze in cold temperatures, which will cause them to expand, possibly resulting in an explosion. Conversely, in very warm or hot weather, wax items, including candles can melt.

For shipments moving less than 150 miles and delivered within 24 hours of pickup, your Certified Moving Consultant may agree to transport perishables such as plants that are properly packed and require no servicing in transit.
Items of Personal Importance/Sentimental Value
This category of “non-allowable items” can create problems should your shipment be delayed or items lost. We suggest that irreplaceable items and/or sentimental items be carried with you instead of being packed with your shipment.
Professional Movers.com recommends that our customers transport the following items themselves:
