- Use your empty suitcases to pack up your personal belongings and accessories. This will save you from having to buy more boxes.
- Wrap your expensive breakables like crystal, vases, and collectibles in your bath towels linens and bed sheets. Even t-shirts will work if you run out of towels. Anything that’s soft and light will work to protect your breakables. This means you will use less paper products for wrapping breakables.
- Don’t throw away any usable item- Place this stuff outside and attach a free sign- it’ll be gone in no time. Also, use websites such as Craigslist or Freecycle.org. These websites are a great, free way to pass on your unwanted items.
- Try to use as many used boxes as possible instead of buying brand new boxes. Usually you can get used boxes for free!
- Don’t use any bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Pack with old newspapers saved from local businesses. You can also ask your neighbors to save their papers a few weeks before you start packing
- If you have any un-opened food that you plan on getting rid of throughout the move, ask about our Move For Hunger program. We’ll donate this food to a local food bank for you!
- Hire a Michigan Green Moving Company like Professional Movers.com with zero-waste, organic blankets, great guys who work hard and efficient on every move. Our movers are the best in the business!
- Use green cleaning supplies that will improve the quality of your home environment.
- Order a large truck because it’s better to do 1 move with a larger truck than 2 trips with a smaller truck.
- If the doors are propped open during your move, make sure to turn the air conditioning/heat off. Not only does this save energy, but why would you want to pay to cool/heat the whole neighborhood?
