At Professional Movers.com we protect your home and we look after your belongings by using state-of-the-art protective materials, best practices and superior moving techniques. We guarantee that on every move, large or small, local or long distance; the last thing you will have to worry about is our movers breaking your furniture or tracking dirt on your new carpet. That is why we have pioneered and developed 15 Steps of Home & Furniture Protection that we provide our customers on every move.
15 Steps of Home & Furniture Protection
Step One: A door jamb will be placed on your front door to keep the doorway propped open to allow easy and safe entry and exit into your home. It prevents our movers from having to set items down and allows our movers the ability to seamlessly move through your front doorway without worrying about the wind blowing your door closed while moving your goods.
Step Two: A door jamb protector pad will be placed along the entry doorway molding. Our door jamb protector pads are spring-loaded to hold them in place on either side of the door. This means we can protect either the edge of the door that swings out or apply it to the edge of the door near the hinges to protect the door and the frame at the same time. Not only will our door jamb protector pad prevent damage to your door, but it will also protect the items as we carry them through the entryway.
Step Three: Neoprene floor runners will be rolled into position to cover all traffic lanes where our movers will be walking. Neoprene floor runners are put in place to protect your floors and improve our movers footing while carrying heavy items. The rubber bottom enables it to cling to most surfaces and prevents it from slipping or sliding on most surfaces. Using our neoprene floor runners means less tangle under dolly wheels, and minimizes any opportunity for any dirt or damage to occur to your flooring.
As an added option, we also stock a product called Carpet Shield that we often recommend during a rainy or snowy Michigan day. The difference between our carpet shield and our neoprene floor runners is that our carpet shield has a self-adhesive film that sticks right to your carpeting. It can be used on staircases without bunching up. Carpet Shield is a much safer alternative to laying down blankets or neoprene that will move throughout the day and gets folds in it that our movers could end up tripping over. Another nice feature is that you can leave it on your carpet until your move is complete or until the weather is better. When you or our movers remove the carpet shield, it won’t leave a sticky residue when you pull it up. The cost for a roll of Carpet Shield is $25.00. If you are interested in our movers using carpet shield, just let your Certified Moving Consultant know and he/she will arrange to have the movers bring it on moving day.
If you are planning a home renovation, Professional Movers.com can help prepare your home for the increased heavy traffic that will take place during the renovation period. Often, our movers are called upon to place semi-permanent floor covering on flooring to protect the residence during the entire renovation phase. When this happens, our movers will utilize sheets of masonite and builder board to create a custom covering to protect the entire floor area. The masonite or builder board is a hard surface covering that will reduce pressure from soft or fragile surfaces like marble, travertine, wood, or ceramic. In addition, it will keep the surface free of drywall dust or saw dust that is common during a home renovation. It will allow your movers and construction team to bring their often heavy tools across your flooring without leaving any unwanted dents, cracks, or damage to your flooring. Our movers will measure the surface of the floor area and cut custom pieces of masonite to cover and shield the area. All masonite seams will be connected with tape to prevent any opening between the boards.
Step Four: If your staircase is lined with handrails that prevent our movers from safely and efficiently being able to move your items up or down the stairs, our movers will carefully remove the handrails. Once all of the moving is complete our movers will reconnect your handrails and return them to their original position. If your staircase has built in banisters that are unable to be removed, our movers will wrap your banisters in premium pads to protect them while we are moving items up or down your staircase. Our premium pads are made of the thickest and softest moving blankets available and will ultimately allow our movers to work more efficiently since they will not have to set pieces of furniture on the staircase while moving. This means less time spent moving thus saving you money off your total moving bill and reducing any chance for claims to occur.
Step Five: Any upholstered furniture will be stretch wrapped inside your home using Black Stretch Wrap. We are the only mover in the Michigan market that prefers the use of Black Stretch Wrap for residential moving. Our Black Stretch Wrap will cover the entire surface area of your upholstered furniture. Since our stretch wrap is black not clear, it is easy to see that the entire piece of furniture is covered. Many movers use clear or see through stretch wrap because it is a cheaper product. When clear or see through stretch wrap is applied to furniture it is difficult to determine if any of the surface area on the furniture is still exposed. Our theory is that if even a spot the size of a quarter is exposed while moving, there is a chance for that one exposed area to become dirty or soiled. We eliminate any possibilities of leaving your furniture exposed by using Black Stretch Wrap. This keeps your upholstered furniture clean during the entire relocation process.
Step Six: Our movers will cover many of your wooden furniture pieces in premium pads and rubber bands before it leaves your house. Many moving companies will just carry your items out of the home and place pads on the furniture once it’s in their truck. But have you ever taken the time to walk into the truck and actually see how the pads are placed on your furniture? Probably not, you would be surprised to see how many movers try to cut corners by not fully wrapping your furniture and leaving many of your furniture pieces stacked on top of each other with little or no pads between the furniture. All of our moving trucks are stocked with a minimum of 300 premium pads and plenty of multi-sized rubber bands that help hold our premium pads onto your furniture. Since many of the pads are placed directly on your furniture inside your home, our movers can carry furniture without worrying about it brushing against a tight wall space or worrying about a drawer falling out of the furniture while they carry it. Have you ever been standing in another room while the moving company is moving a piece of furniture and you hear…..bang..crash? That was probably the result of an inexperienced team of movers attempting to move a dresser while one of the drawers fell out onto the floor. Professional Movers.com will not allow those mistakes to happen. Instead, you will see and hear two competent movers preparing your furniture before they move it.
Step Seven: If you have large furniture that needs to be moved into or out of a room where the ceiling is very low and the furniture is very tall, our movers will use a product called furniture sliders. Our movers will place small furniture sliders underneath the bottom of your furniture to easily move your furniture and protect your floor at the same time. Our furniture sliders have a hard foam top that conforms to the bottom of the furniture and helps to keep the slider in place while we are moving the furniture. The bottom of our furniture sliders are made of felt to protect your floor. Our furniture sliders will allow our movers to position your furniture without picking up the furniture and potentially hitting the ceiling or low doorway.
Step Eight: All of our moving trucks are equipped with a set of three various sized curb ramps. The curb ramps will be placed outside of your home to help ease the transition of moving items into or out of your home. The use of our curb ramps eliminate the movers having to climb the outside steps leading into your home. It means that movers exert less energy and are more productive, taking less time. It also means that our movers are able to dolly heavy boxes and furniture in and out of your home without the dolly potentially scratching your wood porch or chipping your cement or tiled steps.
Step Nine: Many Detroit moving companies allow their movers to wear jeans on job-sites while moving. Jeans often have small rivets along the top of the pants that can scratch the sides of furniture as movers carry pieces up and down staircases. At Professional Movers.com we leave nothing to chance and do everything we can to minimize any possibility of damaging any items. All of our moving teams are fully-uniformed in outfits that are designed for moving. To keep your items safe while loading and unloading, our movers wear rivet-free pants that have a completely smooth surface. We also provide our movers with logo-ed shirts and hats that make it easy for you to identify your movers.
Step Ten: At Professional Movers.com we maintain a fleet of late model residential moving trucks that are purely designed to move household items. Our residential moving trucks are not just your standard U-Haul style truck with wood planks on the inside walls that require non-reliable rope to secure your items. Instead, we have reinforced e-tracking that lets our residential moving teams safely secure your items inside the truck using ratchet straps. All of our residential moving trucks are lowered to the ground to reduce the pitch of our moving ramps. This allows our movers to carefully load and unload your items without exerting excess energy that can lead to movers being fatigued from carrying heavy items. All of our moving trucks have access doors on both the sides and the rear of the truck. This permits our moving teams to position our trucks in the closest possible load and unload location, helping reduce the overall move time and thus saving you money. Finally, our moving trucks are sanitized and maintained each night to ensure that they are debris-free, trouble-free and ready for your move.
Step Eleven: Our movers use box dollies that are custom built for residential moving. They are made of light aluminum which allows our movers to exert less energy and keeps them working at an efficient pace. Our box dolly tires have pneumatic tires that are made of soft rubber that will not leave marks on your floors. The front frame of our box dollies are fully padded to prevent your furniture from rubbing against the aluminum frame. In addition, we add low friction polymer skid bar glides to our box dolly’s backside, to protect your stairs. On heavy items such a marble table bases or desks, our movers will utilize a four-wheeler that has either carpeted or rubberized top. The top of our four wheelers will protect your heavy furniture from slipping while moving. The rubberized four wheelers allow our movers to move the heavy item and provide for a more even weight distribution when they are moving item across your flooring. This will prevent the four wheeler from scratching, denting, cracking, or chipping your floor. Professional Movers.com will utilize an appliance dolly to move refrigerators, washers, dryers, freezers, ovens, and safes. Our appliance dollies feature ratcheted adjustable straps to securely hold the appliance on the dolly while we move. Along the backside of the appliance dolly we have installed stair rollers with V belts on roller bearings that make it easier to move heavy appliances up and down stairs without damaging your staircase.
Step 12: Each of our moving teams are supplied with a full assortment of various tools that may be used to disconnect or reconnect furniture that would be impossible or unsafe to move if left together. Examples of furniture items that our movers will often take apart are: mirrors off of dressers, hutches off of desktops, pool tables, and head/footboards. In addition, we may remove your handrails or doors to fit furniture into or out of a room. As part of our standard service, anything our movers disassemble, we will put back together. Our standard toolbox includes a drill, a ratchet set, crescent wrench, vice grips, various set of screw drivers, and a set of allen wrenches. When our Certified Moving Consultants visit your home for your estimate they will review any items that may need to be disassembled and let our moving team know before they arrive at your home.
Step 13: Have you ever heard of the term hump straps? Probably not, but when you’ve been moving people for over 30 years you learn to develop secret tricks of the trade that make moving easier, safer, and more efficient. In our case, that secret is our use of hump straps. The hump strap is a revolutionary system that we use to move heavy and bulky objects. It focuses on our movers utilizing leverage, not brute force. Rather than bending over to pick up an object from the bottom, the hump strap is placed underneath a heavy item and then the hump strap is securely wrapped around our mover’s forearms. This system allows our movers to maintain an upright posture while their forearms and leg muscles lift the weight. It significantly decreases strain and risk of injury to our mover’s lower back, hands, biceps and forearms. It has been found that our hump straps can reduce the weight of an item being carried by as much as 66%. It also helps create handles for the movers on furniture that is hard to carry. On tight staircases or doorways it provides our movers with additional space to make 90 degree turns more efficiently. All of this adds up to less opportunity for our movers to damage your furniture or your home.
Step 14: At Professional Movers.com we recognize the safest way to move your Flat Panel TV is by utilizing the TV’s original packaging. Unfortunately, it is quite common for people to dispose of their original packaging when they purchase a TV. When this happens, we can offer our clients use of our Mobile Flat Panel TV Case. Our Mobile Flat Panel TV Case is designed to safely transport TV’s from 20” to 52”. The outside casing is made of durable metal and hard plastic. It has hinged locks and 4 swivel rubber wheels that allow our movers to seamlessly glide the case across any surface. The inside of the case is lined in protective Styrofoam with multiple compartments that can hold both the TV and other additional components such as speakers or cables. Our Mobile Flat Panel TV Case saves money for our customers by improving efficiency and cutting down on waste. It eliminates the need for movers to build costly customized wooden crates. Most importantly, it is the only certain method to make sure that your flat panel TV will be safe during the move.
